Angel Oak, 2016, Watercolor, Graphite, and Collage
Angel Oak was a piece I created in 2016. It was one of the first politically focused pieces. A tree, specifically, a sprawling angel oak made entirely out of paper products and natural watercolors. On top of this, I placed burning and singed paper and news article clippings referencing oil prices, remarkable creatures, and other information relating to deforestation, and the damage that it causes. It is a 24x24 inch painting / collage.
Angel Oak is a unique piece that I will likely never work into in a similar fashion again, I love collage, but utilizing collage solely for its color and creating bark like textures out of semi transparent paper left me stressed through a large portion of this relatively large scale piece.
This piece was originally created in an Exploring Painting Media class at CPCC, in 2016.
