Home Bound is an 8"x10" Acrylic Painting of my family's home, it was created in 2017 and was one of the primary pieces to start the series Dark Days, exploring personal experiences with nostalgia and the concept of home and/or comfort contrasted with the quiet of night. The hazey style of painting was created by painting with a frayed, broken brush. This painting was painted in the middle of December, along with "Snow" and "Drive Way", which were also painted around the same week. At the time, I was painting a painting every single day. A hectic and difficult to maintain learning experience that really made me grow as an artist.
I paint in acrylic predominantly with Golden Acrylics, however I also utilize Liquitex, and even Liquitex Basics for underpaintings. For this particular series, I always start with a black gesso'd canvas, preferring to work reductively and only add lights, rather than darks. For this specific piece, the canvas was already a cut of black unstretched canvas.
