Coffee & Cola is a part of a series that I created around 2016, during one of my advanced studio classes in my last few semesters at my community college, CPCC. During this time, my work was very focused on process, experimentation, and the utilization of non-standard techniques in one medium, such as Printmaking, as it could be applied to Painting.
This, and a series of other pieces, were utilized with painting in the form of presses, such as with sponges, brayers, and different pressured based applications. In combination with this exploration was the utilization of saran wrap and corn starch as a medium for creating small, raised structures on paintings. Coffee & Cola is one of my personal favorites from the group, utilizing a familiar color palette that I still resonate with to this day.
Coffee & Cola has been in two different shows, one of the shows it was in is a show with my Painting Studio class, titled "Something about a bunch of boats" which was in combination with our Sensoria event held at CPCC every year. It is also currently on view, March 2020 until September 2020 in the Novant Health Center on Park Road in Charlotte, NC where it is housed for a special group show in combination with CPCC's Visual Arts Club.
